Welcome to our Drama/ Theatre Department.

Theatron in Greek means “a place of seeing”.

A performance usually takes place on a stage area inside a theatre. Learning in the theatre can be done by using laughter, humour and playing. This motivates and reduces stress. Theatre is very important in children’s lives. Acting, dancing and singing are very beneficial to a young person’ s life.

Here are a few benefits for students of the arts:
  • Theatre helps children speak in public with confidence.
  • Talking and performing in front of audiences teaches a child volume, enunciation and inflection, improving self confidence and public speaking.
  • Dramatic art develops a sense of self-confidence.
  • Dramatic art develops a team mentality.
  • Children tend to work as a team when they have a part in a play.
  • Presentation from a child / person on stage requires confidence and courage. Their part matters and they learn to be responsible in a group setting.

  • Performing can also be good for physical activity. Dance choreographies, blocking during rehearsal, building sets, seriously gets a child moving.
  • Learning lines in the theatre, blocking, keeping track of cues and lighting, use a lot of memorisation tricks to remember everything .These tricks stay with us forever to use in studies and our work environment .
  • Memorization techniques are taught in the theater that facilitate the memorization of texts, lines, introductions. These techniques are useful for reading and working.
  • Dramatic art improves the professionalism of a child / individual.
  • By participating in the theater, children learn to support their colleagues, to respect them, to show enthusiasm and to work hard. These characteristics continue in their professional career.
